ASIAN FUSION
Standard Poodle (Puppy)
SUE WRIGHT
ASIA
In this tutorial, Sue works with Asia, a six-month-old Standard Poodle puppy having her first big girl Asian Fusion–inspired groom. The styling is deliberately softer than a more extreme Asian trim, taking Asia’s puppy coat, age, and experience into account.
The focus is on gentle patterning, flared legs, and a balanced head shape, with plenty of patience built in. Sue talks through blending techniques, proportion, and handling a young dog so the groom looks polished without overwhelming a puppy coat or mindset.
Part 1 Body Shaping and Styling
Sue begins by setting a soft Asian Fusion body pattern using an attachment comb, blending smoothly into the legs without harsh scooping. The emphasis is on maintaining a clean topline, gentle definition through the shoulders and rear, and an overall balanced silhouette suited to a young poodle.
Part 2 Tail and Flared Legs
This section focuses on building flared legs while keeping the coat neat and manageable. Sue shapes wide feet, blends carefully through the tuck-up and stifle, and tidies the tail for balance, all while preserving fullness through the hocks and lower legs for future growth.
Part 3 Flared Legs, Head and Finishing
The groom is completed with detailed head styling, including muzzle shaping, eye opening, faux ear creation, and topknot blending. Sue demonstrates how to create a soft, rounded Asian Fusion expression while working calmly with a puppy, finishing with final tidy-ups and a simple accessory for presentation.
