COOPER

In this tutorial, Tepra demonstrates a practical salon freestyle trim on Cooper. The aim is a soft, rounded finish that borrows from Asian Fusion styling while remaining realistic for everyday grooming.

Watch how thoughtful clipper placement and controlled scissoring create balance through the body, soften the outline, and improve Cooper’s overall silhouette. This groom is a great example of adapting Asian-inspired shaping for a typical salon dog while keeping the trim wearable for regular clients. Thanks Tep and little champion Cooper.

Part 1 | Body Clip and Rear Leg Shape

Tepra begins by setting the foundation of the groom with a blue snap comb through the body, leaving enough length to soften Cooper’s naturally fine frame. You’ll see how thoughtful clipper placement helps disguise his low tail set while preparing the coat for easier scissoring later.

From there, the rear leg is shaped with careful scissor work to build a soft, full outline while maintaining a clean bevel on the foot. Tepra demonstrates how working from multiple angles and overlapping each scissor pass creates a smoother finish. Because Cooper is still young and a little fidgety, notice how she keeps a steady hand on him and allows him to reposition himself rather than constantly moving him on the table.

Part 2 | Front Legs and Balance

In this section, Tep shapes the front legs, setting the bevel first and then building the leg into a soft teardrop profile. Removing bulk from the back of the leg helps emphasise the rounded outline and maintain balance from every angle.

You’ll also see useful handling tips for softer coats. Instead of combing straight up, Tepra uses an in-and-out motion with the comb to stretch the hair before scissoring. This helps prevent the coat collapsing back into itself and allows cleaner, more controlled scissor lines.

Part 3 | Face, Expression and Finishing

The final section focuses on shaping Cooper’s head. Tepra clears the stop, lip line and throat area before building a rounded Asian-inspired face with a soft donut shape and visor that opens the eyes and improves expression.

Cooper’s two-toned face makes balance slightly trickier, so Tepra demonstrates a helpful trick using a comb across the nose to visually check that both sides are the same length. The ears are finished with soft teardrop shaping and the head is blended smoothly into the neck to complete the groom.
