Study Notes | Key Concepts

    • Use wide snap-on combs, like the orange snap, for clipping, and always brush the coat back before clipping a second time for a smooth finish.

    • Double wash with shampoos that add volume and body to the coat, such as Plush Puppy Primrose, for a squeaky clean and fluffy finish.

    • For the front and back legs, create a cylindrical shape. Scissor to match the foot length, beveling tightly around the foot for a lifted appearance.

    • To shape the foot, hold scissors flat on the table when scissoring near the pads, then bevel up for a lifted look that hides larger feet.

    • Create a round, balanced head shape. Clear the stop area for a clean look and trim the “kissy lips” and around the mouth to avoid trapped hair.

    • For the top knot, use scissor spray and trim in sections (donut, visor, and cheeks) to ensure symmetry and a rounded shape from all angles.

    • Clear hair around the ear canal to improve airflow, reducing the risk of infections common in floppy-eared breeds.

    • For tear staining, recommend regular wiping with a damp cloth or saline solution to prevent oxidation and discoloration.

    • Anti-static and scissor sprays like iGroom Boost It Texture Spray prevent frizz and help manage soft, mixed coats. Use sprays sparingly to avoid weighing down the coat.

    • After scissoring, use chunkers or thinning shears for refining and softening any lines in the coat, ensuring a polished, natural look.
