Study Notes | Key Concepts
-
Identify important body points (ishium, pro sternum, elbow, stifle) and mark them to guide grooming.
Ensure the chest depth reaches the elbow for correct proportion and balance.
Position the legs to enhance a square appearance, avoiding a "lengthened" look.
-
Adjust the top line by scissoring from the withers down to the tail, creating a smooth, straight line.
Modify the underline by trimming close to the body, accentuating the tuck-up without extending the dog’s length.
-
Shape the front legs by aligning the elbow with the deepest part of the chest, scissoring for a straight look.
For rear angulation, set the back legs slightly under the body, trimming from the stifle down to avoid overextension.
-
Stand back to assess symmetry from all sides, especially the front and rear views.
Use a comb and finishing scissors to smooth out any rough areas and finalise the trim.
