TOY POODLE

Betty

Betty is a Toy Poodle and is having a pet version of the German Trim. Chuckie works with the owner and the dog for comfort. This is a lowish maintenance clip for the owner, and a striking result!

Part 1 Betty has her ears and tail clipped short with a #10 blade.

Part 2 Chuckie sets in a rounded chest. This is a modified version of German Trim for a pet.

Part 3 The head study. Chuckie steps out each section of the head study and presents a well balanced topknot on Betty.

Study Notes | Key Concepts

    • The German Trim is modified for pets, making it more manageable for owners who may not brush regularly.

    • The tail and ears must match in length to maintain balance in the trim.

    • A #10 is used for the body, with scissoring adjustments to shape and blend transitions.

    • Clip the tail and ears the same length, ensuring symmetry.

    • Use a #40 for clean feet or scissors for a softer finish.

    • A 10mm or 13mm comb attachment is used, adjusting length based on the dog’s activity level.

    • Rear Angulation is achieved by trimming in a slight V-shape and following the natural tail line.

    • Avoid over-trimming the back of the front legs to maintain a balanced look.

    • Adjust scissor angles based on the preferred finish.

    • Comb hair forward and cut along the natural line to prevent matting.

    • Modified mane removal: Keeps the pet comfortable and avoids mats around the collar area.

    • Always blend scissor work to avoid harsh lines.

    • Use curved shears for rounding edges smoothly.

    • Ensure proper posture of the dog to maintain symmetry while trimming.
