TOY POODLE

Jackson

Jackson the 4-year-old Toy Poodle is enjoying a salon style clip today with Prue. All his pre-work has been done and has been bathed in body building shampoo as he has a very soft coat.  He is ready for his lamb trim.

Part 1 Beginning with a #3F on the body, using a #4F under the neck, and scissoring the back legs and bevels.

Part 2 Front leg trim Prue brings the neckline in tight and begins to work on the front leg.

Part 3 Topknot Prue uses a holding spray to bulk the coat out for Jackson’s soft coat. Take your time when scissoring the topknot as there is a lot that can go wrong.

Part 4 The ears, tail and general polishing Prue uses blenders on the bottom of the ears to soften and neaten them.

Study Notes | Key Concepts

    • Thoroughly bathe and dry the Poodle before grooming to ensure an even trim.

    • Brush out the coat completely to remove tangles and matting.

    • Choose the appropriate blade length for the body based on coat type and owner preference.

    • Use clippers in the correct direction to achieve a smooth, even finish.

    • Maintain symmetry by following natural body lines.

    • Blend the body into the legs using thinning shears or a blending technique.

    • Scissor the legs evenly to maintain a balanced shape.

    • The Lamb Trim features a distinct fluffy leg look—avoid cutting too short.

    • Neatly trim the feet to maintain cleanliness and a polished look.

  • The topknot should be scissored to enhance head shape, maintaining symmetry.

Keep ears neat by trimming excess hair but maintaining a natural shape.

The muzzle should be clean and proportional to the rest of the face.

  • Check for any uneven spots and refine as needed.

Ensure smooth transitions between clipped and scissored areas.

Final brush-through to make sure the trim sits naturally.
