Ethics in Modern Dog Grooming | with Nat 📼
Presenter: Natalie West
Recorded at: igroomhub HQ, 2025
Natalie West presented this session at WestGroom 2024, taking a step back to look at the bigger picture of where dog grooming is heading and the role ethics now plays within modern grooming environments. It’s not about perfect trims or producing a flawless finish, it is now more about about the experience happening around the groom, for the dog, the owner, and the groomer.
Throughout the presentation, Nat talks openly about handling, communication, emotional welfare, owner expectations, team culture, continual learning, and the responsibility we carry when working closely with dogs every day. Drawing on decades in the grooming industry, she reflects on how much grooming has changed over the years, and why observation, kindness, flexibility, and understanding the individual dog matter more now than ever before.
This is a thoughtful and very real look at modern grooming practice, designed to encourage reflection, conversation, and a deeper understanding of what good grooming can look like beyond the finished haircut.
