GIZMO
Gizmo is an older gentleman with alopecia, a wobbly back leg and not an enormous amount of coat left to play with. He is also about to become extremely cute.
Taylan gives him the little round “Boo” style his mum loves, but this isn’t a tutorial about taking a healthy Pom coat short. Gizmo’s circumstances are very much his own: he’s around 10 or 11, his coat is already compromised and his mum chooses this summer groom for his comfort.

Part 1 | Tiny body, column legs
Tay uses a 10mm attachment comb over Gizmo’s body, removing the wispy coat while leaving enough through the legs to create little scissored columns.
There’s a lot of adapting as she goes. Gizmo is older and wobbly, with a growth affecting the movement of one back leg, so Taylan supports his weight, lets him sit when he needs to and works gently around thin skin, joints and the areas where his alopecia has left very little protection.
His feet are rounded, the remaining leg coat is carefully shaped and everything is blended rather than relentlessly shortened. With Gizmo, every bit of hair counts.
Part 2 | The Boo face
Taylan rounds Gizmo’s face into the little Boo shape his mum loves, exposing those tiny ears and creating soft half-moons through the cheeks and up into the head. She checks him from the front, sides and back rather than relying on one flattering angle, gradually bringing both sides into balance.
His weepy eye area gets a gentle tidy for easier maintenance, while his already-thin tail is mostly left alone. Tay finishes with a very gentle brush and comb through what remains, conscious that both Gizmo’s skin and coat need a softer touch these days.
