Jock is getting a straightforward Westie pet trim with Nicky, but there’s plenty here about preserving breed shape while creating a manageable groom for a pet dog.
Nicky clips the body short, sets the skirt and shoulders, shapes the classic Westie head and finishes the legs, feet and carrot tail. Throughout the groom, she shows where softness and texture matter more than creating perfectly crisp scissor lines.
Part 1 | Body, pattern & blending
Nicky uses an attachment roughly equivalent to a #5 blade, skimming into the skirt rather than leaving a heavy ledge around the body. She cards through the transition to remove excess coat and help the skirt sit down rather than kick out. Westie Pet Trim Transcript
The neck and shoulder pattern is set with the dog standing so Nicky can see the true angles, with the coat blended rather than abruptly changing from clipped body to furnishings.
Part 2 | Building the Westie head
Only the top section of Jock’s ears is clipped before Nicky begins shaping the head. The aim is round, robust and slightly rough rather than overly neat.
Watch how she gradually removes weight to encourage the coat to stand, particularly through the sides and muzzle. If an area keeps falling flat, there’s still too much weight there.
Part 3 | Feet, furnishings & finish
The feet and legs are shaped without making them look excessively polished, while the skirt is softened so there’s no obvious cut edge. Nicky continually compares front and rear to keep the whole dog balanced.
Jock already has a nicely grown carrot tail, so very little needs changing there. A final little lift through the head brings back that unmistakable Westie expression.
