Study Notes | Key Concepts
-
Use a slicker brush initially to break up tangles and compacted undercoat, then follow with a wide-tooth comb for further de-shedding.
For denser areas, such as the tail and pants, use a coat king or undercoat rake to remove additional loose hair.
Continue with progressively finer combs to ensure all undercoat is removed, section by section, until the coat lies flat.
-
Start with a #30 to clean the pads, then use curved shears to round the foot, following the natural shape to prevent a “hair foot” appearance.
Keep the toes compact by combing up and trimming any long hairs between them for a tidy, natural look.
-
Comb the tail, holding it from the base, and use sectioning to reach all areas without causing discomfort.
Trim only if necessary, maintaining a natural flow and checking that no hair blocks the rear.
-
Apply an anti-static spray or shine spray to reduce flyaways and add gloss, especially for black coats.
For extra protection, use Sea Breeze oil diluted to provide a protective layer on the guard hairs, which can help prevent drying from water and sun exposure.
