Pumpkin is already beautifully bathed, dried and fluffed, and now Nicky is giving her the kind of tidy her owner likes: natural, neat and unmistakably Pom.
There’s no big haircut here. This is all about knowing what to leave alone. Nicky works through the pads, feet, feathering, hocks, rear and tail, taking off just enough to sharpen everything up without losing Pumpkin’s lovely natural coat.

Nicky starts underneath the feet with a #30 blade before brushing the coat up and shaping each foot with scissors. Rather than taking them tight, she follows the existing length and checks them again once Pumpkin is standing, making sure all four feet balance.
From there she lightly shortens the front feathering and tidies the hocks, showing the angles she’s looking for rather than simply chopping off whatever sticks out. Pumpkin is pretty content to sit through some of it, so Nicky lets her. There’s no reason to make a sleepy little Pom stand when the job can comfortably be done sitting down.
Pumpkin’s rear gets a light neaten rather than a dramatic Pom booty. Nicky starts with thinners, explaining how they give newer groomers a little more forgiveness before progressing to chunkers or scissors as confidence grows.
The tail stays long and blooming, with just a small amount taken from the ends because Pumpkin spends plenty of time on a concrete factory floor with her owner. Nicky checks it twice for those sneaky tangled pieces that inevitably appear after you think you’ve finished, then softens any remaining lines and gives the whole groom a final comb-through.
