Clippers and Trimmers

.

Clippers are one of the most frequently used tools in dog grooming, and choosing the right one can make a considerable difference to comfort, control and the quality of the finish.

In this demonstration, Nat and Nicky explore different types of clippers and trimmers, including their uses, features and maintenance. From full-sized cordless clippers to smaller tools for delicate areas, they discuss what to consider when selecting equipment and how to keep it working effectively.

Nat and Nicky compare three Heiniger models, the Saphir, Midi and Mini, explaining how each suits different grooming tasks.

  • Corded versus cordless clippers, batteries and charging.

  • Removing and attaching detachable clipper blades correctly.

  • Differences between full-sized clippers and smaller finishing trimmers.

  • Adjustable blade settings and attachment combs for the Midi and Mini.

  • Using quieter, lightweight trimmers for delicate areas, puppies and senior dogs.

  • Removing accumulated hair and debris from clipper components.

  • Handling clippers comfortably to achieve a smooth, even finish.

The demonstration also includes some older battery-care advice. Always follow the current manufacturer's instructions for charging and maintaining lithium batteries.

Other Clippers and Trimmers

Although Nat and Nicky demonstrate the Heiniger Saphir, Midi and Mini, other manufacturers offer comparable tools. Small precision trimmers, such as the Joyzze Hornet Mini, Wahl BravMini and Aesculap Exacta, are designed for detailed work around the feet, face and other delicate areas. Slightly larger adjustable-blade trimmers, including the Wahl Bravura and Arco, Andis Vida, Joyzze Hornet 5-in-1 and Aesculap Akkurata II, offer greater versatility for finishing and lighter clipping tasks.

When choosing a clipper or trimmer, consider its intended use, blade width and cutting lengths, weight, noise and vibration, battery performance and availability of replacement blades. These features vary between models, and the best choice will depend on the individual groomer and the work being performed.
