Industry Certification for Dog Groomers
Industry Certification was created to deliver the education today’s dog groomers need, not only at the beginning of their careers, but throughout them.
Combining online theory with practical foundational training delivered through approved schools around Australia, the pathway supports groomers as they develop their knowledge, technical skills and professional judgement over time.
There are two ways to enter the pathway, depending on where you are in your grooming career.
New to dog grooming?
The complete Industry Certification Pathway takes new groomers through five progressive learning blocks, practical training and assessment.
You’ll begin with the knowledge and skills needed to understand dogs, coat, grooming equipment, preparation and safe working practices. As you progress, the pathway moves into styling, scissoring, problem-solving, behaviour, client communication and the broader responsibilities of a professional groomer.
Practical training is delivered through approved grooming schools around Australia, with online theory completed through igroomschool. Blocks 4 and 5 then continue your development beyond initial training, providing the education, feedback and support that groomers are often left to find for themselves once they begin working.

Already an experienced groomer?
Experienced groomers may be eligible to enter Industry Certification at Block 4 through Direct Entry.
The Direct Entry process allows you to demonstrate that you already hold the knowledge and skills covered in Blocks 1 to 3. Successful applicants can then continue with Block 4, Professional Dog Groomer, and Block 5, Senior Dog Groomer.
It isn’t a separate qualification or a shortcut through the pathway. It simply recognises that an experienced groomer who can prove they understand the earlier material does not need to begin again at Block 1.
One pathway, two starting points
Whether you begin at Block 1 or enter at Block 4, Industry Certification is designed around the same idea: groomer education should continue as skills, responsibilities and professional judgement grow.
The right starting point simply depends on what you already know.
