Planning Your Day

Having all dogs admitted in the morning and kept all day - or - running by appointment times, what works best?

Let’s have a look!

All day Pros

  • It may be easier to manage staff with bathing. By pre-clipping all your dogs in the morning and having them all bathed may make the afternoon run smoothly

  • It gives owners a chance to drop dogs off before work and collect them after work

  • No interruptions to your work after all dogs are admitted

  • Dogs have company all day

  • You might charge an extra fee for an all-day visit

All day Cons

  • Barking dogs may affect both groomer and dogs

  • Constantly cleaning up after the dogs

  • Distraction from dogs who want to play

  • Minimum staff at the end of the day to clean down

  • Greater management of time for bathers

  • Council regulations may deem the business to be a day care facility

Appointment time Pros

  • Ability to plan grooms around tasks that need to be completed later in the day

  • Stagger noisy or dangerous dogs

  • Bathers may not feel as overwhelmed

  • Less dogs on the premises equals less noise and clean up

  • Front of house staff have more time to talk with clients

Appointment time Cons

  • Longer hours for bathing staff (+$$)

  • Long waits in between clients for no-shows

  • Difficult dogs may put pressure on the whole day

Work out what best suits you. You might like to choose one day a week where you accommodate dogs all day. Check with your local council if this is allowed in your area. Housing a dog for more than 5 hours may classify the business as a day care centre.
