GROOMING ARCHETYPE

The Architect

SIGN: THE COMPASS

β€œHow do I get this just right?”

You’re all about shape and symmetry: proportion, balance, clean lines. When it’s right, you can feel it. When it’s a whisker off, you can feel that too.

You’re great at

  • Making an awkwardly built dog look beautifully balanced

  • Grooms that look the same on a Tuesday as they do on a Saturday

  • A workspace so tidy other groomers feel slightly judged

WATCH OUT FOR

Running over time chasing the last tiny fix on a groom the client already loved. Also, other people's work can be painful to look at, and your face may say so before you do.

WHEN YOU’RE STUCK, ASK YOURSELF

Is it wrong, or just not how I'd do it?

The nitty gritty

Your moment: the first look

Before you pick up a tool, you stand back and study the dog. Where's the structure? What needs balancing? You map the whole groom in your head first, and the rest is building it. Other people call it staring. You call it planning.

Solo or Crew

Solo Architects hold their standards without compromise, in their own space and their own way.

Crew Architects set the standard everyone else works to. Teams tend to borrow their systems, usually without asking.

What you can borrow from the Explorer

The freedom to loosen up, try a new approach and enjoy the process. It makes you a joy to work with, and a lot less tired at the end of the day. Go on, try the other comb.

Your BFF: the Alchemist

You both care about the groom itself. You ask how to build it well, and the Alchemist asks what it could become. Together, the result has structure and soul. Just don't redo their work while they're at lunch.

When you get stuck, remember

  • Done is a standard too. A groom finished on time, on a happy dog, meets it.

  • Your eye is a gift, not a verdict. Notice the flaw, then let it go.

  • When the plan isn't working, change the plan.

You and the other archetypes

  • Sage: you both love getting things right. Expect long, satisfying conversations about blade lengths and snap combs.

  • Explorer: they'll drive you up the wall, and they'll teach you the most.

  • Guardian: they'll pause the groom when the dog needs a break. Leave room in your plan for that.

  • Mentor: they turn your standards into steps the whole team can follow.

  • Architect and Architect: immaculate. Possibly a little tense.

Balanced well, every time.
