Borzoi
FREDDIE
Freddy is a handsome Borzoi. This breed originated in Russia and was once called a Russian Wolfhound. Bred to hunt bears, this sighthound is intelligent, gentle and very athletic. They are also referred to as aristocratic, and we think yes, a top hat would look perfect on a Borzoi.
The Borzoi has a double coat and needs particular attention in the bath. Jess uses a combination of hydro bath and hand washing. This process can take up to 20-25 minutes.
Freddy is 2 and half years old and does not have his full length underline just yet. If you are looking to groom a Borzoi for a competition, these tutorials plus a read of the Breed Standard will set you up for success.
This tutorial is also available as a fastForward
PART 1 Bathing a double coated dog is key to setting the groom up for success. It is important to use quality products and a great conditioner.
PART 2 Drying a double coat requires a great deal of skill. It is easy to push knots into the coat. Freddy is well used to being dried and does not require a noose. For the sake of the video, Jess is not wearing a mask. It is imperative that all groomers wear a mask, ear protection and glasses when drying dogs. Jess uses a combination of a high velocity and heat dryer.
PART 3 Following the bathing and drying, Jess combs Freddy with a wide and then fine tooth comb. Jess uses a #30 blade to clear the pads, and scissors the outline of each foot. There are a number of products that can be used to showcase this gorgeous breed.
